Looking for that beastly sound!

Hey guys! So I gots an '88 F250 project truck with a 460 that I'd like to start throwing a lil money at soon. Some of the first things I'm after are headers and exhaust. I'd like to find a good blend of sound and performance (doi!). It wouldn't bother me to get "flipped off in the church parking lot" now and then. He'll, I'd appreciate it! So I was wonderng if a few of you gearheads out there could help me out and point me in the right direction. Thanks, y'all!

Im putting on a set of doug thorleys and a hiflow cat from magnaflow and a glasspack muffler. That should do the trick. This is going on a 1988 f350 460 EFI-C6 dually

Well if you want to get the finger at church , just run straight pipes ...If you go duels , i would use long tube headers into 2 1/2 in pipe then go bigger , 3 in before the mufflers & 3in mufflers then run the tail pipes were you want , i like chambered mufflers with a good cam , if you don't have a cam & its loud its just annoying in my opinion...Lew

Cats or no cats? Going with a good sounding exhaust from cherry bomb is their extreme series. Run 3'' single all the way back and it will be a low rumble that sets off car alarms when you get on it

Well thanks for dropn' the lines, guys! Sounds like good things all around. I'm curious, lew 52, if you don't mind, about a cam.. If I go that rout am I gunna be pumping the gas at a stoplight to keep the motor alive at ildle? Overall, what does a guy gain and sacrifice by camming his motor?

Not if you go with a computer compatiable camshaft. What will you gain? a lot. Overall power will be very noticable from idle to whatever power band your cam is set at. Generally from idle to 5500. Sacrifice? Some claim to lose MPGs but I have yet to see that one being true with my motor so i really cant think of any cons of a cammed motor.

if you want ridiculous, i would go straight duals with an oversized cam, them it would lope at an idle. if thats not what you are looking for, go no cats, generic trubo muffler, and an oversized cam. it would sound like a souped up muscle car
