Question 1956 f100 part question? What is it?

I have a 1956 f100 that came from Las Vegas area.
The part I am needing info about is a sheetmetal plate about 12'' long and 9'' wide on the passenger side frame below the generator.
It was in the bed when I got it...and the p.o. said it mounts on the frame.

I have had many of these 56s and have never seen this before.
What is the purpose of this plate?
Thanks...Bill

There is a splash shield about that size mounted in front of the battery below the running board, but that is no where near the generator. Your plate sounds like the previous owner fabricated a splash shield for the generator. ?

Yes the splash pan is for the generator. Every frame is drilled for it but many trucks are missing them. It is easier to work/troubleshoot the generator with it not there.

These were only used on the PASS side when the truck had a Y block engine, none used with the 223 6 cyl as the gen mounts a little higher and on the drivers side.

Geeze Bill, it's kind of hard to tell as the picture's none to clear

I do recall seeing a pan that bolts up behind the radiator cross member, not likely the same one your talking about though.
