What was the first thread on FTE? Who was first member?

I started on a Compuserve auto forum in the early '80's; all plain text, no pictures, on a Radio Shack Model 100 portable computer (prehistoric laptop) with a built-in 300 baud modem. It felt like a miracle to be able to see 4 lines of text "almost instantly" from someone across the country. My, how things have changed. Before that it was Hemmings, paper copy.

LOL....I was always bad in math....so I must be in my 30s......since 60s is now the new 40s.
I joined after 30 yrs of wanting another 56. I started just trying how to figure out the computer, and did it by myself.....with Terri fixing my mistakes.
I joined to find out how to repair my old truck. I never thought it would be a big part of my day. Especially in winter.
Hard not to check in and see what everyone is doing.
ANYONE HEARD FROM FRANK HACKNEY LATELY? He had a 48 f100 I think ?

It is very fair today, everything is wet no dry spot was left out
We have been getting hit left and right in Winters (Near Sacramento) but not as bad as down south.
As far as teasing the old folks, I will have to check back in a few years

Abe, I think you were already here when I first started to hang around. I was asking questions and stuff before the "forums" were first organized, but can't remember when I first joined. I bought my 54 F250 around '96 or '97 and found FTE when I started trying to fix some stuff on it after about a year of owning it. My old computer crashed years ago and is long gone, so I can't remember when my earliest contact here took place.

In the 70s...before internet ....I wanted to build a big block mopar into a 56 f100.
I was just driving and had to have a hotrod.
If it wasn't for the old books out like trucking....I would never have been able to build it.
TRUCKIN magazine must have been funded by southern california pickups and panels...because every issue had cartoons about them and just about 5 pics and write-ups of the effies in every issue....LOL
Is JACK RIES still around? I met him in 1976 when I took my first road trip cross country and bought tons of parts.
If it wasn't for these guys....I might have kept my truck stock......and still had it......crap...now I wish I would have done that...haha
Now with FTE....any swap is just a few clicks away....except a big block mopar in a effie.....haha

It's amusing to hear you whippersnappers exchange bards about your longevity on the net. As a '69 graduate with a BS in Computer Science, I have a lifelong experience of "change that you can believe in". For me, the Cisco kid has dual-meaning as well as "Well done, Grace Hopper".
As to whom was the first user of the FTE, I doubt it was Al Gore (self-proclaimed inventor of the Internet) as he had moved on to bigger things. I was on an antique tractor forum in '96 when I was rebuilding my Ford 8N, so it wasn't me.
Since we are all shrouded in Cyberspace, identity theft is rampant, and pictures no longer convey true images, I doubt you will ever know for sure.
