Hello, I have a 91 F150 4 wheel drive that I am having some issues with. The truck does not want to idle and I have to rev it up at a very high RPM to get it to move. Once the RPM's are up, it will run but not very good. I was getting around 4 MPG and it is getting worse. It spits and sputters at low RPM and dies. I have not run any type of code scanner on it as all I have is an OBD II style at the moment.

My guess was fuel delivery problem, possibly the regulator. Could someone give me some direction as to where I should start?

You need to pull the codes but you do not need a scanner but it does help.

Id check the timing, sounds like the timing chain may have jumped a tooth or more. Can alsoi check for fuel in the vaccum line coming from the fuel pressure regulator

 

What motor is in it ??...Lew
