That ad is lazy. When Tony told me the guy is taking bids. He should of posted that on the ad. He has 2 pics, but too lazy to post them.
The condition of the truck looks better than my Yellow Ford truck.
Also the first Econolines were not til 1961. So it seems the guy is being general about the year. It couls be a 65 for all we know. He has not enough info. Without that info it makes me leery about it.
Now with the truck Don Poole has that is running for 700 helps to argue the price this guy wants. Although Mercury one are harder to find. But the condition may get him 300 to 500 for it. Person has to travel and time.
I hate that like your experience there Sheldon. I seen that ad and the price is right. But it is not rust free, He mislead you.
Some of these guys figure they get you to travel all the way there and you find it is not what they said. They figure you will still take it, instead of going home empty. That is the stunt that Don Poole did to me and he was mad when we left without buying or taking the truck.
The stuff I been selling for myself and my neighbor. I'm upfront and do not hide the fact it could be fixed or only good for parts. Then they make their choice. At least I can sleep with myself for being honest.

I agree Glen,a few years ago i went from red deer Alberta to Steinbeck Manitoba.I took my trailer with me and made the 18 hour trip. The seller told me that the 55 2 door Chevy wagon was mint.
He said the wagon had a new 350 in her,no rust, straight body
So when i got to the car it had rust,a knocking sound from the engine and lots of fill.
I ended up offering him less money so i could get something out of the trip,he said no.
He thought I came too far to go home with no car.To this day I've never owned a 55 Chevy wagon.
I told him that he shouldn't bull**** people when their traveling so far.I also told him he could end up getting assaulted some day.
He did look surprised when I told him he could shove his car up his....... Keep it in mind I was tried from 18 hour long red eye trip so I was crabby. That's why I ask lots of question now, before I go look.

Don't blame you.
A co-worker is restoring a 68 Camero. His son bought on line from the states. He paid $13,000 for it had it shipped here. It was suspose to be in this great shape with the original 350 engine.
Well it was a faded paint that was all polished up for pics. The engine was a newer 80's 305 engine. Looks like a 350. Pulled carpets and trunk liner found rust holes that had been pop rivoted.
They ended up doing a complete strip down. Now they are getting it back together. He bought it sight unseen. Proves good to go see it in person or have someone in the area go look for you that you can trust.
They had no way of getting their money back. Due it was bought in the states and shipped here. So lucky you did not have it shipped and saw the results afterwards.
It would of been hard to prove he misled you and the cost of court can quickly swallow any costs to recover from reselling the vehicle.

I went to Regina 10 years ago to get a fuel truck for my business from FED CO-OP.It was suppose to be a good working unit
. It looked and ran very well.Could not test the pump so I took his word .
Got it home, pump was cracked .Went to court in Regina and lost. And I Had the ad from the auto trader for proof and letter from co-op saying all pumping equipment is in excellent working order.
The judge basically said it is buyer beware no matter what I say he said.
Later a lawyer told me that I will not win against a big socialist federated co-op in Saskatchewan courts system
He said that co-op pays a lot of tax also provides lots of jobs and has a lot of hidden power. So some times even when you feel right and have proof that says your right. The man can still make you wrong

That happened to me when this garage rebuilt an engine for me. I installed it back in my car. Drove for a short bit and it started knocking. Compression was good, but no oil pressure. They would not warrenty it due to they were not the ones who installed it. It could of been installed wrong according to them. I went to the Better Business Bureau. They said I did not have a leg to stand on. The court would rule in their favour. I kept driving and put only 10,000 miles on it. Pulled it out. The oil pump gears were all full of scracthes and gouges. Also the crankshaft and bearings were the same. I found out they dropped the engine and broke my original crank and put in a replacement. It may of not fit to the crank and why the noise shortly afterwards.
Needless I told a lot of people in the town they were in about the warrenty's they give. The place 6 months later closed up.
This was in the 80's and the cost for a rebuild was $800 then.

Will guys,I talked to man with the econoline .He said it is a merc which got me all excited. But with that said, now he said that he is only taking bids. He will not sell it until all bids have had a chance to come in. For me..... That sucks big time...... what do you guys think a good bid for a rusty, dent, no bumpers ,not running beater is worth???????
Thanks

thats not right merc. i ran into a guy that has a thames freighter that had a 350 chebby
in it. my coronet has a 318 w/360 4v heads. and its a good runnin' thing. the 360
is the big small block. of the plymouths. the 383/ 440 are a brb engine. i'd love to get my hands on a 340 LA engine. but thats not going to happen those motors are high dollar. but the 318 is one of the best engines chrysler built. its a short stroke small block
but they top out at about 7000 rpm the valves float at 7200 rpm.
