62 4x4 Powersteering

I currently have a '63 F-100 2wd 292 that I am looking to do the same with. Is there a certain year we should be looking for? Also any ideas on how to go about adapting the pump to the engine? I have been researching this on the forum for the last week but haven't found much. Any literature we should look into?

have you seen this power steering pump before? the site says it's a remanufactured pump for a 1958-1965 ford pickup, which is contrary to everything i have read on here. From what I am gathering, there were no pumps offered until '65. Can you verify?
I got it from Mac's Antique Auto Parts website.

61 ford 4x4
i'm in the same boat with my 4x4 im trying to adapt a steering box from a mid 70s f250 4x2 it seems like it will fit ok with a fabbed up bracket but the lift on my truck is causing troubles with the pitman arm trying to work it out. ive heard a late 70s f250 4x4 power steering box would work without much work but they seem to be hard to find. Good luck

There is no such thing as a 1958/65 Ford truck P/S pump, you wanna know why?
1958/64 F100 2WD's were available with dealer installed P/S, the pump is an Eaton, which was also used on 1953/64 passenger cars.
The Eaton's P/S fluid reservoir is a separate part, it mounts on top of the pump.
1965's were not available with factory or dealer installed P/S.
1966 was the first year F100/250 2WD's were available with factory installed P/S, which is the Bendix unit.
The P/S pump used on 1966 F100/250's is the same as 1965/70 Galaxie/LTD's. The pump & reservoir is a complete assembly.
The Eaton P/S pump looks totally different than the Ford P/S pump.

You can adapt a later 2x4 Truck box if you mount it behind the core support but in front of the axle. But you need to restrain the bottom of the column and add a bearing. Then a idler shaft with borgeson joints. The pittman arm reversed and between the frame and leafs. This would be a push pull and a custom drag link needed to be made to attach to the spindle arm. A mount can be accomplished by boxing and gusseting the through bolts.
The Toy box is popular as it is the same basic shape and size as the stock Gemmer box. It needs to be adapted to the frame with a bracket and exits through the stock hole. The pittman arm needs to be modified by v cutting the toy arm and adding the stock ford remains to it ans this allow you to use the stock drag link with no mods. Again this needs the lower column restrained and the shaft cut from the original box or a donor from another truck of the same diameter.
The Power steering no matter what you use needs to be a late model slipper type. Metric GM pumps are small and compact. Custom hosed will be needed bt can be made at any competent hydraulics shop.

The first link shows a Y block PS bracket installed, The second link is for the Y block and a GM pump. Cheap and reliable.

I also need some info on 4x4 power steering on a 62 f100. I have parts on order from cpp but the guy I talked to there said adapting something for the Toyota pitman arm to the draglink will be the biggest issue since it’s a 4x4. I guess two wheel drive is more straight forward?
