Hey all, I bought this truck used of course, and the owner was a young girl who barely knew the history of it. She knew something had been changed out, and thought it was the engine, but upon some issues and digging, it appears that it must have been the tranny. After getting it home, I decided to drain the tranny and change the filter, which is where my fun began. I expected the stock tranny, but ended up with an AODE from a mid 90's Crown Vic. I don't mind the AODE, since it isn't a bad tranny, but the shift points have always felt odd. So the thought finally hit me to run the tranny door code (U), along with my Axle Code (18). According to the Transmission Spotter's Guide, what should have been in my truck was a 4R70W. Makes sense, since the dipstick for my tranny also doesn't come anywhere near lining up. So here's my question, since the 4r70w is basically an AOD with wider ratio, can the computer be modified to adjust the shift points, or do I need to explore another transmission?
I know, it's been a long story, but I wanted to provide as many details as I could so we hammer this out.
I've been on the forum for about 4 hours looking for more information about this, and it's turning out to be more unique than I thought. Here's what I need to know, can the shift points be changed to make to reflect the new tranny, or am I better off finding another 4R70W tranny for this beast? I have some good yards here, I just need to know where to go from here.
