Stripped HPOP housing

So a 10 dollar fixed seems to have turned into a 1000 dollar fix. An o-ring went bad on one of the hpop fittings and i took it out fine and replaced the o-ring. As i was putting it back together, i didnt notice the bolt was going in a little crooked. Now the housing is stripped. Can i remove the hpop and retap it? Or do i have to get a whole new pump?

huck, i have a 2000 f250 7.3 psd.

Layson, i'm actually thinking that is going to work since it isn't something i will be removing often.

thanks for the info izzy, i may just helicoil it if i can. Im going to pull it off tomorrow.

I've read the write up, but im not too familiar with the acronyms used for these trucks, so im never too sure what parts people are talking about. For example i didnt know what "hpop" was at first. How long do you guys suspect it will take? Not to toot my own horn, but im fairly mechanically inclined.(besides this bone head mistake of course =P )

Fuzzie, Welcome to FTE...this is a great site, and the people here are just awesome...they will become your second family...

As for your issue...not sure if it can be fixed, good luck with it, as for the time, it should take you @ 2-2 1/2 hours to remove, and probably quicker installing, don't know why it works like that, but it does...when i replaced my o-rings, i just looked at it as a learning experience, and had fun doing it...mostly because this is my first diesel, and at 6' 1", 240 lbs, i look kindof funny with my a$$ in the air fixing stuff on my rig...my wife enjoys the view, but she would never admit it...lol...

I pulled mine, cleaned, fixed NS-plug, and re-installed in a few hours. Pics here:

EDIT: BTW, you *will* need new sleeve seals for the fuel bowl unless you recently replaced them. "They" say you can't reuse the HPOP mounting gasket, but I have and so far, so good. //knocks on wood//

x2 on those sleeve seals...they were $36 at the local stealership...about 3 times the o-ring kit from Guzzle...bump...i was torn up in the driveway, couldn't wait for shipping....they haven't invented the "Star Trek" shipping method yet....lmao

I got lucky with mine. I had them already and was waiting for just that kind of situation to put them on. BUT, I couldn't wait for the kit to get shipped for the NS plug, so I paid ~$60 for the Int'l kit. Failed on Sunday, HAD to be on the road early Tuesday am...
