I am i the process of installing a F-650 dash kit. I am going to relocate my DP tuner to a location next to the power source to the right of the heat/ac control section. I am going to cut out a section for the mounting bracket. My questions are:

1: Whats directly behind that section?
2: If there is something directly behind it, can I remove just the front section of the dash or do I have to remove the entire dash from the windshield?


I am going to have to remove something anyways for the lower kit to be installed.

 

I finally located a section in my workshop book. It says there are two screws above the radio that have to be removed.

1: after the screws are removed where are the tabs/clips located on that piece?

I dont want to pull in the wrong section, because I do have a wood grain dash piece installed on top of it.

 

You just have to carefully pry it off. I usually use a screwdriver to get it out a bit and then my hands to do the rest.

 

I have some pictures of the parts removed and what it looks like behind the dash but I don't see how to upload them.
Send me an email, if there is a way to do so and I will send you the pics. One of which shows the two screws over ther radio.

 

So here are some of the pics I was refering to.

In the one of the back of the trim you can see the tabs that go into slots in the main dash. Those slots can be seen in two of the other pics. The two screw location behind the radio is in another pic.

The trim, essentially, just pulls straight off once the radio is removed.

Suggestion, pay the 5 bucks and buy the radio removal tools. Trying to make your own is just a headache. (Ask me how I know.)

Well this is interesting. I went to FAQ, looked it up and the instructions seem to be incorrect. They say;

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. "

No matter what I try, I follow the instructions step by step and I can not find the "Manage Attachments" option.

 

I see the two screws in the radio section. Thats no problem, I was wondering how many clips/tabs there are hooking the rest of the panel to the main dash. It seems to easy that the panel would just pull off after only two screws were removed.

As far as for uploading the pics. I used the website www.webshots.com created a free account and upload the pics from there. The icon is located wwith and mountian and sun to insert image(at least on my computer). Just insert the JPG info once you upload your pictures to the webshots website, or whatever website you choose.

I didnt get it at first, but now its not to bad.

I already have an after market radio so I have the tools for the removal.

 

It takes some force to pull the panel away. I think there are like 8 or 10 clips. I always pull the gearshift all the way down to low after the panel is lose to have room to get it out. Make sure your park brake is on and works. Wheel stops too.

 

Ok, I am trying it again, with a little feedback from those who moniter this site.

The backside of the dash trim





These tabs, shown in the picture below, go into the rectangular slots in the dash. They just pop out and in with the dash. Dash removal is to remove the radio, the two screws above the radio, get your fingers behind the dash trim, seen here, and pull torward you.



Note, in the pictures below, the rectangular slots in the dash that the pins go into.



The wires shown, except for the radio, plug into the rear of the switches and are unpluged once the dash trim is removed.

It is still in the works. have placed the switches in the holder. I have cut out the openings for the two gauges. I still need to cut out the opening/hole for the GPR led. I am also waiting for the oil temp gauge to be delivered.

Sorry a complaint on the oil temp guage from www.itpdiesel.com not to happy at all. I shall shop somewhere else from now on.

how did you get the headlight/foglight switch out? that seems to be preventing my dash from popping out.

 

I took a small sharp ice pic and lifted it from one side (as your looking at it from the drivers seat) and it will come out. I was a little liary at first, but now that I have done it a few times not so bad. I dont think there was that much slack on the wires though.

 

Many thks guys for this good explanation. Worked very well. Just had to fight the wire connections a bit - a food pair of pliers made the job to deconnect them.
