HELP with BW4407

I just bought a 1996 F-250 and can't seem to find a 4lo or neutral. I can pull the shifter down once and it will engage into 4x4, but the shifter won't pull down any further and that's 4hi. The shifter is missing the *** so i can't find the shifting pattern and after googling, I can't find much info on the 4407 at all. Does anyone know if it even came with a 4lo? Any help is appreciated.

Not sure about yours but on some you have to push hard down on the lever before pulling back to get 4lo.

I went on a little internet hunt and yes you need to push the shifter down then pull back.

I'm sorry about getting back to this so late. I just went out and gave it a shot. I can't thank you enough. I just couldn't find any info except for places for rebuild kits with google. Do you know what range it has or if it's even a good transfer case?

BW 4407? Never heard of that one. You should have a BW 1356 in your truck.

The shift pattern is, from front to back: 2HI - 4HI - N - 4LO

You don't need to push down, but there is a slight indent going from 4HI to N. You have to push it a little to the left. If it doesn't go in, make sure the transmission is in neutral (not park), you aren't moving at all, and there is no tension or binding in the driveline. If it still won't go then you probably have some rusty linkage. Try to work it free with some PB blaster and keep it lubed with white lithium spray grease.

4407 was used with the PSD before the Super Duty. Much stouter case, bigger chain, etc.
Low range is 2.69 IIRC, it also has six pinions vs the four of the 1356.
There were two different linkages- 96 is the push down one, 97-98 is not.

I found out it was a 4407 from the tag. It's a massive transfer case. Ford_Six, can you think any reason why I would have one? I don't have a Powerstroke.

It was used behind 460s in F350s, maybe it was an option?
