Oil ?? Which do you use (460) ?
OK
So the mileage says 168,000. (1997)
I just had a new crankshaft put in, replaced the oil pan and rear crank seals.
So - When I get the oil changed in 3000 miles....
10w 30 , 5w 30 , high mileage oil ? or just go with regular ??
The shop told me that the engine had been rebuilt in the past, it looked to be in good shape and should last a long time.
Not shake, shimmy, anything.
But I want to do all I an to prolong its life.
What do you put it ?

If you do not know for sure what it ran before, I would stay away from high detergent oils like delo and some others like that. It will start cleaning things and a lot will end up on the cylinder walls and it can be just like sandpaper or dirt and will wear the walls rapidly.. Thats the only thing I can think to watch for. I run Rotella T 15-40 and it works pretty well even when it gets cold here..

Rotella T 15-40 with 3-4 ounces of Lucas break-in additive. The additive puts the ZDDP back to the level it was 8-10 years ago and is supposed to keep the cam happy.
I think the government has mandated reduced levels of ZDDP in new motor oil to accelerate the wear of old cars. They want to get us into newer cars for emissions reasons, to stimulate the economy (GM = Government Motors..) and to get us driving vehicles with more computerized "oversight"...
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching me!
