I left my stock speakers and installed some nice tweeters. Most of my sound comes from the tweeters and my 2-12" sub's behind the rear seat. I listened to some with updated door speakers and decided my set up sounded better. I mounted my tweeters up high, so they direct towards your ears instead of towards your knee's.

I mounted them with 2-way tape (black) to the windshield, they are located it the far upper corners. They are directional so you can aim them. I know this may sound tacky but they hide really nice (tuck in the corners) and you have to point them out before someone notices them. I mounted them there because I did not want to put screw holes in my pillars. I am into them $12.00 instead of $$$$ for door speakers. You may want to mount a pair in the back seat, I did not because I rarely seat passengers in the back seat.

Hey I know this is an old thread, but I'm wanting to get a lot better sound out of my truck (on the factory radio for now, but eventually getting a double din nav/DVD unit). A few questions:
Are the speaker sizes the same in a 2003?
I'm not really wanting to go with a sub just yet, because I use the space below and behind my back seats to store all kinds of stuff, so what speakers could I use in the doors to get some decent bass without the putty or cracking sound like the speakers are about to bust? Thanks guys.

Speaker size is all the same, as far as getting better door speakers, just about anything is better than stock. I've used everything from low to high end speakers. Its worth the $$$ for stuff like Alpine or Pioneer, you're just never gonna get that pounding bass you may be lookin for without subs.
