Choke Tubing 351M/400

Forgive my terminology blunder. I don't know what you call the apparatus but it serves as a thermal coil in the emmissions port of the intake manifold and has one tube running to the choke and the other running to the back of the 2V carb. I have never been able to get one disconnected from the carb without distroying the hot leg going to the choke. It just crumbles in my hands...rusty and brittle. Anyway, none of the local parts stores seem to have them. It may be because I don't know exactly what to call it. Can anyone out there tell be where I can get one or how I can deal with what I have?

From the factory, that part is called ' choke heat riser'. Not available new anymore, but there are repair kits out there called ' choke tubing repair kit'. Any parts store will have it.

Thanks for the information. I will pick one up and give it a try tonight. I found a kit a NAPA store but it required a hole to be drilled into the exhaust manifold and tapped with a nipple for the tubing. I was hoping for something that would work with what I already have...it sounds like what you describe is what I am looking for.

Yes the instructions say to drill & tap into the manifold, but actually the adapters supplied (3/16 & 7/32)simply go into the existing hole at the choke riser plate. Select the closest and knock it in place. I don't think you have to do any drilling on the Ford.

An electric choke conversion is a better idea. That is my read on things after doing it both ways. The repair kit works ok. You don't really tap into the manifold as the heat riser is a cast in pocket with no actual exhaust gas contact. Hope this helps.
