I swapped the pcm from my 97 into the 94 yesterday and there is a difference I found out. The 97 has an auto trans in it and the 94 has a 5 speed.
First the auto trucks pcm doesn't see the clutch switch. It will not turn off the cruise control when you hit the clutch. I found that out the hard way.
Also taking off with a clutch is nearly impossible with the auto trans pcm installed. You should be able to take off without touching the throttle but I couldn't. I had to nearly peel out to do it.
With the old 94 pcm installed it was no problem at all.
There are probably other differences but I thought I would share this since they can be safety problems to anyone else trying it.
RRranch, I can only imagine your situation with the cruise control. Glad you are ok to tell about it.
The PCM is very specific between Auto and Manual. That is why it is important when ordering a chip to tell the tuner all of the specifics of the truck.
It is really driving nice now with the factory computer and the chip removed. Shifting gears and starting off is super easy. Plus I can really feel the difference the new exhaust made. I'm hitting 20 pounds boost now without even trying to. I haven't floored it yet to see what it will do. I've never seen over 15 psi boost before and that was on the floor.
