what 4 speed trans will work in place of C6

I have a 1977 F150 2WD with a 400m and C6, I want to put a 4 speed auto in place of it to get a taller highway gear. Does anyone know what will go in place of the C6 or know where i can go online to find out what will work?

An E4OD is your only choice. You'll need wiring and a computer to make it work.

E4OD is the only one in that bell pattern.

AOD/AODE/4R70W are in SBF bell pattern with an expensive adaptor required on top of a beefed trans.

The E stands for electronic, so you would need a stand-alone computer, at $500+, to run the trans.

Trans links fwiw:

E4OD and 4R100E Performance Products

TCI - Ford AOD, AODE and 4R70W

E4OD, 4R100 Transmission from PATC, E4OD, 4R100

You can add an OD to the tail, but it's pretty spendy too if you buy new:

Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

They say $4 gas is coming back, but even with that price, you may save gas but it's a big question as to if you'll save money.....

Just recently checking into this.

Speaking with hughes performance. Just got a email back today. Like mentioned before E4oD tranny is you only choice in oem form. I know their are some upgrades to chevy tranny's but very expensive with bellhousing changes. So for our application is E4oD is our situation. Also your gonna need a electronic controller. I know they are expensive also. Hughes suggested to me a full manual valve body in a E4oD about $2500.00 with converter and core charge. this is a new transmission built up with full manual and Hd towing converter. I like a full manual valve body but some don't. I like to shift gears! So I'm thinking of going this way once the income tax kicks in. Any question drop me a PM or I can send you the email I got today from hughes for my application. Good luck and check back in with me. WE don't have much for salvage yards and used parts out here and so I usually end up getting shop new and built up. wyoming is great but not so grate on salvage parts. Have to ship in used parts can be expensive especially if its a bad used part. EBay can be a beach!!
