Found me an Oil Leak

Well I was out front enjoying the summer weather watching me young fella ride he's razor up and down the road. I then found my self staring at my truck and to my horror I notice a wet spot on the steering arm. So of I go and my kreeper and have a look see. There is one thing I cant stand and that is oil leaks. Got the degreaser out and the the old tooth brush and gave it a good clean. It looks like its coming from the Harmonic Balancer.

What are we looking at here bruva's

So is this a major or minor job. It looks like I need a puller to get the balancer off undo some bolts and replace the seals.

my leak there was from the CPS..the crank would toss oil all over the place..pull the CPS and put a new oring on it and see if it stops.....also make sure the cover to the HPOP gear bolt isnt leaking..that will also fall onto the crank...it will be found behind the EBPS..

Sure it wasn't coolant with dirt mixed in? The water pump is right there too. Seems like there is a fair amount of "rust" right there. Have you loosened the belt and gave the fan a couple of tugs to see if there is play?

B-Uno,

Is there an offset seal made for this specific application?

The first thing I did was start from the top down. It look like its isolated at the bottom of the oil pump plate (nice link Robin) I will watch it over next cupla days. If it is the oil pump plate seal what are we lookn at. If I go in there what else would be advised

usually there is for harmonic balancers as they always groove from the seal. check your local part stores.

Seems like it could be a seal on the LPOP. There isn't anything on the balancer. You do need a puller to remove the balancer. It isn't too hard to do.

Its definitely the backing plate. Cleaned her up and its coming from the very bottom bolt on the backing plate. If it was the front seal it would leak from there as well wouldnt it ?? I would have to replace the lot while Im there ? What about the LPOP. I have 80K miles up but all seems to running well. Also has anyone used a fluid dampner are they worth the money ? I know there is alot of questions but I have to get this right so I can it all sent over from Clay in one hit.

I have a fluid dampner and all it really does is quiet the motor. it was noticeable!

I guess you could just pull out the LPOP and replace the seal. Does anyone know if there is a gasket for that? I have never pulled mine...

Been watching this leak for a while now. Must say it is only minor but I do dislike leaks.
Its coming from the bottom bolt on the backing plate.

So what would this suggest. The O-ring on the backing plate. If it was the front seal it should leak from the front or back of the balancer right ???
