2007 Expedition Wind noise from mirrors
Hi All,
I have read posts on mirror wind noise, and verified that the mirrors are causing the problem. I just purchased the vehicle but it is out of factory warrenty. Does anyone have a way to adjust or modify the mirrors to minimize the noise?
Thanks.

The fix is getting the new mirrors or leaving the tape on them.
FORD: 2007 Expedition
LINCOLN: 2007 Navigator
ISSUE:
Some 2007 Expedition and Navigator vehicles built before 05/07/2007 may exhibit wind noise around the exterior driver and/or passenger doors. This may be most noticeable near the A-pillar area of the door.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE BUILD DATE IS ON OR AFTER 5/07/2007, THIS TSB DOES NOT APPLY. CONTINUE WITH NORMAL WORKSHOP MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS.
Tape the trailing edge of the mirror sail down to the front window glass from the tip of the mirror sail to the belt molding.
If the noise goes away, replace the mirror on the effected side. Both mirrors do not have to be replaced.
If the noise does not go away, continue with normal Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04 diagnostics.

Had this fixed under warranty and noticed two things:
1. The replacement mirrors are smaller than the originals. They are more compact with a cleaner look, too.
2. The cowl and "trailing edge" seat up against the door and glass a whole lot better than originals.
We only had noise on the driver's side, but they replaced both. Which tells me something was never right about the original design.
Next time you are driving in a rain shower, pay attention to the water runoff right behind that "trailing edge". If water is swirling in small circles on your glass like there is weird turbulence behind the mirror, then you have a faulty mirror. This was the biggest difference I noticed, because now the water droplets shed naturally with the replacements.
Here's a tip, before you take the vehicle in, tape up your mirror per the TSB. Then head to the dealership, park it in front of the "gatekeeper's" cute little Ford kiosk at the receiving bay (you know...that guy who keeps you from being in contact with a real technician???) and tell them to "fix it". Kinda sends a message.

Another 2007 with wind noise
I've noticed the noise from when we first purchased this truck in Oct. 2007 as a Ford program vehicle with 19K miles. I just thought it was something to accept and forget, but now realize I could have had something done about it. After a recent road trip of 2K miles I had plenty of time to listen to the variation of sounds, especially with the strong winds we encountered most of the drive. I passed along the TSB information and taping procedure to a service advisor at my local dealer and he said he had not even heard of the TSB or tape procedure, but now that I am over 36K miles (mine just rolled 50K) and out of 3 years from the manufacture date of 01/07 any work done on the mirrors or windows would be out of my pocket. I'm not willing to pay for this fix and can deal with the noise, but does anyone have any idea what the costs out of pocket would be to do so - or has anyone seen the costs associated with a warranty covered TSB replacement?

The tech should have been able to look up all TSB's. It's not hard to find. Shame on him.
