Glow Shift Gauges - Question

Who here uses them? I'd like to get some input before I buy them. I've read both bad and good. Question though, how easy is it to hook up these guages up to the engine/trans? I'm going with a trans temp, oil pressure and water temperature. Just curious if anyone has done a install with this combo and how did your installation go? Does the kit come with everything I need? Thanks for any help.

Mike

So you aren't installing an actual shift light, Glow shift is the brand?

Gauges are pretty simple unless you're running something like Autometer's Nexus line with the networking and datalogging options. If you go electrical on the gauges, you will have to install a couple of sending units which the gauges should come with. The senders are most likely all one wire, then you need to provide the gauges with switched power, ground and illumination. All of the gauge installs I've done required plenty of extra wire (I like to color code what I'm doing so I run several colors.)

If you go mechanical, you will have to run copper tubes to the engine and trans, then a nylon line for the oil pressure. It's not quite as easy and you're pumping engine oil into the cab.

Here's a fairly recent thread where a guy in the 7.3L forum installed a set of Glow Shift gauges and was happy with them. Then, quite a few folks chimed in that they also installed them and are happy with them......

I installed a Glow Shift "oil filter adapter" for my oil pressure (and temperature) sending units. That is a super easy way to get the oil senders installed. Price was right too, around $30.

i take it you've pulled the trigger on them already, but i'll chime in for anyone else wondering. i run the trans temp and oil temp and couldn't be happier. i love having all the light color options, especially the green to match the dash. the full sweep when they power upp is neat, too.

just curious what you used for fittings for the trans temp sensor?

it came with a sending unit; there is a port on the trans that has a plug in it; take the plug out and put the sensor in. real convenient!
