I'm getting ready to hit the road for 6 months, but I will have someone start it atleast once a month and would like to know what should I do to keep everything ready/preventive once I get back. Since it's lifted and has the feel driving down the road of a big rig, I will not let anyone drive her. This is my first diesel and 4X4, and I'm very protective of her.
This is only My opinion: Try some Hot Shot Secrets along with a 5w40 synthetic oil and run it for 500 miles or whatever before You park it. I can honestly tell You that The HSS did wonders for My injector issue and it helped w/the coking issue on the Turbo. If I were storing My truck I would do these things. Good Luck.
Starting it up every month...... Won't help much and might hurt it. Because the engine will not get up to operating temp for cleaning out the acids and could plug the egr and other items in the exhaust system. Best to have someone DRIVE it and get it up to temp. OR just get a fuel stablizer, change oil in it, have someone put a trickle charger for a day once a week and you should be good to go.

What he said ^^^^
If I lived close to you, I'd take her out for a run on the freeway twice a week to keep things together.
Ford's recommendation for long term storage is to run (does not have to be driven) the engine once a month for 20 minutes. The first 10 minutes can be at normal idle, but the next 10 minutes should be at a elevated idle (at least 1200 RPM). SEIC would come in handy for this...
Thanks Toreador. So it's sounding like in need to let her out in the pasture and run alittle bit. But it's my baby. I'm just hoping nothing happens to her. The only times I'll be able to drive her will be before the Thanksgiving holidays and if I get lucky coming thru NC. I guess I'll let my brother drive her some. Thanks everyone
