Replace stock muffler with Magnaflow?
#17
I have a 14" Magnafow and it sounds great. Just noticable in normal driving but opens up when you step on it. I did feel better throttle response after I had it installed but I don't think any mileage increase or more power. Also added a Gibson 3" stainless tip that helps deepen the tone. Cut the tailpipe back and adjusted the position until it had a slight "trumpet" effect.

I love magna-flow. There are different options available. I have them on my 75 F100 428 with headers. Three inch exhaust three chamber magna-flows. I hade some glasspacks on it before and the drone was unbearable. Its sill a little loud but livable on the highway and sounds great when you jump on it.

Why not go all the way? Just replace the muffler with a piece of pipe for about $20. The cat converter is already a 'muffler'. I'm only half-serious on this - there may be unintended consequences of increasing exhaust velocity through the converter. Want another cheap trick? Remove the muffler, take a steel spike and knock the baffles out of it. Put it back on.
