Ive got an 06 6.0 f-350 had some trouble awhile back with rough running and no power so i changed to t-stat and put a grille cover on thinking that was the problem but it only fixed it for a little bit and no its back worse than ever. start it up cold or warmed up its got a noticable miss put it in gear and gets even worse as long as you get the rpms above about 2,000 it smooths out it still lacks a little power driving 65 try to pass or climb a hill the whole trucks shakes and slowly gains speed until it downshifts then it okay just low on power changed fuel filters and oil, filled up and added diesel service with antigell didnt make a difference so stopped by the dealer yesterday and they thinking a injector is stuck open. last thing i wanted to hear does anybody have anything to try before i have to spend atleast a 1,000 for dealer to fix it?? im willing to try anything at this point thanks

 

Try an Italian tuneup.

Pull any codes it throw up and tell us.

 

ive got a code reader but its not showing anything

 

The 6.0 has so many sensors it virtually diagnose itself.

I'm guessing you are out of warranty by mileage? If you're under 100k it should be covered.

 

Have you tried a strong injector cleaner to see if it will clear up at all.

 

no i havent tried a strong injector cleaner " any suggestions" i was running howes lubricate and i tought it was gelling up so i ran a bottle of diesel service 911 and now im running white bottle of diesel service with no change so far. yes my warranty is up ive got 135,000. my code reader isnt showing any codes so im not sure where to start. and this morning i went out to start and it didnt want to turn over it was -2 F when i got off work i put a battery charger on for a bit then went to try it again and i lost all power to everything some how. The cab lights or anything wont come it reset the radio and all so i left the charger on it and the starter is still trying to turn over with keys out im complety out of ideas

 

What are you using as a code reader? Not all code readers are created equally.

 

Someone on here report Howes is a problem.

Run the tank close to dry, put in fresh diesel and see if that clears up the problem.

 

ive got a cheapy from oreillys like $80 ive been wondering if its not getting all the codes i would think with all the sensor and everything it would throw a code by now

 

Does it read CAN? If it doesn't read CAN or it only gets generic codes(which are mainly emission related) then chances are you won't ever see a code thrown on that device.

While our trucks were the first to be OBD-II complaint with the general powertrain. It mainly consists of 6 or 7 sensors and almost all of them are EGR related.

 

I love this thought process. All the stuff that this thing tell us. can send a person on the biggist goose chase knowen to man.
Its in some ways very simple and others very complex. Its not bad if you knowo what it is you are looking at and for but by nomeans is it that easy.

an the Italian tune up is not the fix all. I have seen it be the break all before though.

 

Cheezit is right. At this point chasing your tail. It sounds like you had one problem that has now blossomed into more. You have to step back and tackle one problem at a time. First off, at -2F you shouldn't have 15w-40 oil in it. That's a summer oil. If you already using synthetic don't worry about. If I were in your shoes. I'd get the truck into a warm shop and start looking at the source of why the truck went dead. Load test the batteries, Check over to connections and look for harness chafing. Something caused it to completed lose electrical power. Once you solved that, then you can tackle the rough running issue.

 

yea thats the problem it wont fit into any "warm places i have without putting it on a trailer and then i dont have a trailer big enough to get it on" so im stuck working in the cold its up to 20 F today so im gunna pull the batteries and get them tested

 

Ya.. cheezit.... that is why you people who do this daily, have the expertise and experience and have the Ford diagnostics tools earn $$$$ and the rest of us don't.


There is, um, a bit of common sense involved in using the "Italian tuneup".... hmmmmm.... How do I convey that?

Or just wait until the kid with the tuner dial up 1,000hp, 1,500ft lbs of torque, and put the pistons through the block?
