The cab top is rusted out in one of my 64's and I must get it replaced. It rusted out above the cab roof support, which is gone as well. Just fixing the rust would't be a big problem, but I would have to find a roof support anyway, so I figure the best solution is getting a cab top fron another truck and having it welded on.
I have found a 1965 cab that has a good top (that's about all that's good on it- would'nt cut up a good cab) and I was wondering if this will work. I think ford changed the heigth of the cab sometime in the 61-66 period, but I'm not sure if or when.
WIll there be a problem with the interior panels at the rear corners of the cab if I try to do this? (since it would probably be cut at the posts for the transplant)
Thanks in advance.

The roofs are different between my 62 and 64 f100s. The 64 is a little taller, with different lines, but where they are attached to the cab, they are the same. I believe 64-66 roof panels are the same stamped shape. Kinda funny place for these trucks to rust out!

Indeed it is. In fact, this is the only one I have seen that has rusted out in this way (lucky me). I have seen several trucks with rusted cabs, but this rust is right along where the cab top support would run- in a perfect outline of the support. The only thing I can figure out is that somehow the padding material which fits between this cab support and the cab top held moisture and caused the rust. Anyway, the rust has spred into seemingly a thousand pinholes. It's bad. If I sit in the cab with lights overhead, it is not difficult to imagine myself gazing at the stars on a clear night! I think if I got mad enough I could probably put my fist through it (and don't think I haven't wanted to a few times!)
I found this 65 sitting in my uncle's field- it's a half- ton cab crudely mated to a 1959 F-500, or 600, or something like that. It was a farm truck and hasn't been used in years. I'm going to try to get my hands on it! It has a 4spd behind the 292 (remember- it's all a 59 except for the cab) that I might check into sticking in my other 64. Not sure what kind of tranny was in those big trucks, though.

You probably wont like that 4 speed at all. It is probably huge and heavy, plus the shifter probably moves 4 miles between gears (very long throws). I have been told an old top loader four speed will fit with little mods, but I havent tried it in mine yet. Good luck with your roof though. [How about a hard top convertable 64 f100]
if you don't live in too cold of a climate, just cut the roof out and put an oversized sun roof in. I'm considering it since i don't have A/C in my '77
No, it doesn't get too cold down here in south arkansas, but I am trying to return the truck to "near original" condition- It's not a hardcore resto, but it won't be far from one. The cab top on these trucks aren't really made for sunroofs. there is a recessed area about 1 1/2 ft wide which runs from front to back of the cab. The rust extends all the way to the gutters anyway. I'm afraid I'll just have to replace it all.
Thanks anyway
