Unhappy '05 F150 question about fuel injectors

Hey guys, my wife's cousin has an '05 F150. He took it to the dealer to have it scoped cause it was missing, and they said it needed 2 injectors. Fine, he said he told them to fix it. They put in 2 injectors and called him. When he got there, they said they needed to "talk" to him about his truck. When they started it up, it was knocking pretty loudly. They said it has a bent rod. Now the only way to know that for sure is to have had the oil pan off. They said it had hydrolocked and bent the rod. What made it hydro lock if it dont have a blown headgasket and got water in the cyl. or gas from a leakin injector? He had already had a mechanic friend put in a new set of Champion plugs tryin to fix the miss. Also, why would the dealer only put in 2 injectors and not all 8? He said that he had read that the '04's had a problem with injectors. His truck is a '05 in the first month, so it could very well have '04 injectors in it?

Now the dealer is sayin tough luck man, and not wanting to do anything about it. He said he has an extended warranty on the truck and they dont want to cover it cause of the injectors and such. I am not that good on this late model stuff and primarily work on old trucks so I told him that I'd post on here and find out what I could. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

I would think if the rod was bent during the injector replacement the fix should be on them for incompatance. The mechanics are supposed to be certified at the dealerships. Check for Certifications and argue the case.

If it wasn't knocking before he took it in,they are responsible.
They could easily have hydro locked it during the injector repair.

Seems funny how they automatically called it a hydro lock problem.

Talking

Yeah, it seems very funny that they had already diagnosed it as hydrolocked and that it had a bent rod by just "guessing" I told him that they were liable, and he should get a lawyer to "talk" to them about it. I just thought you guys might know about a recall on the injectors and stuff? I am still wondering why they only replaced 2 injectors if they prone to failure? It kind of reminds me of the cyl head problem on the '98 to '02's that they wouldnt admit to.

Thanks guys

There is a TSB on the injectors for 04 and early 05 trucks. The dealers only are able to be reimbursed for the actual parts that are bad, hence only a 2 injector change. It was the same on the 6.0L PSD trucks. If the cylinders filled with liquid fuel it's possible to hydrolock it. But usually the fuel gets pushed out the exhaust valve and into the crankcase past the rings without hydrolocking. It can ruin the converter, though. It's possible for there to be valvetrain damage from a bad phaser or something else in the valve train. I would thing a wet and dry compression test and a leakdown test to be in order here to determine the condition of things. The miss could also be a COP issue. Code scan will tell that. Your friend could always try a different dealer.
