Heater *****
Does anyone know where to obtain replacement ***** for the 3 heater control cables shown here? The cable heads are 3/8" diameter, with "push-on" fricton ridges. The ***** shown in the various catalogues are threaded, screw on type and usually black. The auto supply stores do not seem to have replacement cables with heads that would work. Any help to identify a source would be appreciated.

I found one Ford part number for one of the *****, fits 1946/48 passenger cars: 51A18519
Bob Drake in Grants Pass OR (bobdrake.com - 800-221-3673) has an online catalog, look at the pic of the 1941/48 passenger car dash *****.

Thanks for the responses, and to any future ones. I will follow-up on the suggestions. In my high school years I owned a 1948 Ford coupe, and a 1946 "Sportsman" wood paneled convertible (boy do I wish I still had that!). However, that was so many years ago, I didn't recall what the ***** looked like.

You might want to call C&G Ford Parts in Escondido. The last time I was up there they had some in the display case. And as Bill mentioned they appear to be 47ish vintage. Althought he heater control you show was for a 48-50 Truck Magic Aire Heater.
I had a long lost of reacons not to use the 51/52 control in my 51 F1 and used one of these. I respored 2 of then (one is an overdrive/hood control panel) so I actually wanted the black ***** (and I used 56 bezels - I like those better than 51).
Here's a pictures of the two panels:
And a link for C&G. The ***** are not listed inteh catalogue, but if you ask for Kyle and tell him what you need he may have them as a one time set or something.

i have a '47 super deluxe and the ***** all have something on them (like "L" for lights or "T" for throttle) same color though. i'll look and see if they're push on.....but i remember them being screw on. i believe the '46 car had the red letters.

The early models had the same grille (with the red painted lines), same hood emblem, hood ornaments (6 or 8) and parking lamps as 1946's used, but did not have the '46's trunk mouldings.
I believe the dash ***** match 1946.
The later 1947's had the 1948's parking lamps (below the headlamps), different grille (with blue painted lines). The hood emblem and hood ornament (with the plastic insert) are the same as 1948's.

FYI to all -
I received this reply from C&G Early Ford Parts in California "The heater ***** are not reproduced. You do have an original Ford heater control for 1948-50 pick-up. You might have to use window crank *****. The hole on the ***** is the size of a 1/4" bolt. The #51A-7023345-C looks to be the correct color that would match the faded ***** on your heater control."

i just looked at some old ***** and the crank ***** look like them....but the rest have either a letter or dot on it.

Ilya "51 Panel Man" has the ***** and cables now.
On the second set (the nice ones) they were restored with a white Epoxy paint. You might want to try something like that. It would be about the same as a steering wheel restoration!
