Radio Problems: 96 F150

I recently started having problems with the radio in my truck. Everything was working fine when out of nowhere it quit working. I checked the fuse, it was blown so I replaced it and it blew again. I the head unit is an aftermarket JVC unit that was installed by the PO, it doesn't make any sense to me. I have had this truck for over two years now with no problems with the radio. What is really strange to me is, it's still getting power because I was able to open the face plate and it ejected the CD I had in there. I haven't taken anything apart yet, I am trying to get some more ideas on what to check for. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.
John

It may just be that the unit crapped out. There may also be a shorted wire somewhere in the harness. Have any of the wires been getting pinched?

yea if the radio isnt messed up its a naked place in the hot wire

pull it back out and look over the wires and if u cant c any bad places then u can try the radio by:

removing it and hooking it up to a jumperbox or battery... u know hot wire to + post and ground to the -post.

thats how i check the radios befor i install them i got some factory speakers to that i hook up to make sure everything works

it will let u know if the radio is junk or not

quick and simple

hope this helps

That's kind of what I was thinking too... either radio crapped out or wiring problem. I'll have to pull it apart and see what happens, thanks again. Anyone else have any ideas?

If you find a bare spot on a wire just put heat shrink or similar over it. Then it won't short out anymore.

Yep that is the plan, I am hoping that is what I find. I really don't want to have to fork over the money to buy a new stereo. I guess it would give me a chance to upgrade though.
