Thumbs up 3G write up

I went to the local pick n pull to scavenge some jeep parts. While I was there I couldn't resist snagging a 130 amp 3G alternator out of a Sable with about 24" of harness. I gave 9 bucks for it and ended up paying 4 bucks more for a mega fuse and covered box than I did for the alternator. I looked over the install and pictures again this afternoon that were posted by bghnknf250. With the great tutorial should be a snap. I probably wouldn't have taken on the project myself had it not been for the good retrofit write up. Thanks!

I just did mine too. I pulled it from a Windstar. I grabbed the 6 gauge cable with it and the harness. I bought a 150 amp breaker on ebay and used that instead of a fuse. I removed the old voltage regulator and mounted the breaker in its place. Works like a charm and none of the wires get warm even with the brights and AC on high. The blinkers seem to come alive as well as all the lights. Next project is the Lincoln Mark VIII fan

Good score. Don't forget that when you add the bigger alternator, you also need to increase the size of the body to engine ground....more juice in means you also need a bigger pipe to get it back to battery negative safely.

Yup, I remembered you mentioned the body ground. I was able to score a nice long heavy gauge battery negative out of a 90's C-1500 on blocks nearby the Sable to use as the new body ground.
