F100 Camper Special?
I spent well over a year looking for my current truck. Over that time I checked out more than one hundred F100/250’s of the ‘67 through ‘72 vintage. There are still quite a few nice ones running around down here in southern California. One thing I discovered is that you could have ordered these F100’s from the factory with just about any option you wanted. One of the more interesting options I noticed was a heavy-duty suspension upgrade. I checked out three F100’s with what appeared to be F250 suspension under them. In talking to the original owner of one of these, he said he ordered it from Ford that way. I asked him why he didn’t just order an F250 instead. His response was total cost, apparently it was cheaper just to option it out. Go figure.

I did a Gooooooogle search on F100 Camper Special and of all things I came up with this post on your site. It's been a while since I have been here!
I am digging up an o-o-old subject because I have an interest in it today.
Here's a long story cut a little shorter, I have sold my 1991 F-150 XLT Lariat Extended Cab pickup about two years ago to buy my 2nd 1968 Cougar XR-7. In the last three or four months I have also purchased a fairly decent 1968 Ford 100 (F100). It is a long-bed 360 3-speed truck that a former owner converted to a 302 3-speed (on the tree) some time back (more than 8 years ago because it was done prior to the owner I got it from). I bought it for $550.00 to replace my 1991 because I just need a truck to haul things at times. I started looking for Donor Truck because in it's history my truck had a sunroof added to it and then deleted and the repairs to the roof are poor and leak!
I found a 1968 F100 on Jacksonville Florida's CraigsList and went to look at it from Summerfield, about 3 hours North and East. When I got there I found it to have an 8-lug suspension in it, front 8-lug power disc brakes (4-piston Kelsey-Hayes type?? like the early Mustangs had, only bigger), dual tanks, automatic transmission and power steering. It is also a "Y" 360-2V truck BUT the truck has a cast-iron original-type 4 barrel intake on it. It was built in San Jose and shipped to Tucson Arizona, made it to Oklahoma at some time in it's life and is now in Florida. The frame VIN matches the F100 door tag. It's not a cream-puff but I have a lot of questions about it. I can't seem to find answers.
The door tag shows the truck came with a C1 rear differential which I have found is supposed to be a Dana 44.3 rear differential. Is this an 8-lug suspension rear differential in 1968? The production number on the truck is D06960 showing March of 1968.
Were the F100s available factory line-built or special ordered this way in 1968 (with 8-lug suspensions)?
I wanted a Donor Truck BUT I also don't want to destroy a potentially uncommon 1968 F100.
Thanks for any help and / or information on this subject.

camper special
extra fuel tank's?
lead weight behind seat?
6 prong plug on outside of bed (drivers side)?
extra leaf springs?
heavy duty bumper?
I may have one, but am unsure and my pickup has these options!
