fuel treatment

It takes me forever to go through a tank of gas anymore in the Aero. The wife prefers to drive her Cadi and I use the Escort as the daily driver.
What steps would you recommend for keeping the gas up to par? I usually use Sta-bil in my sailboat outboard. It's the same situation on a smaller scale but it's a 2-stroke motor.

Are you talking weeks? Months?

I don't think it's a big deal if it's just a few weeks. I've had a couple months between fill ups during times when I drove very little.

It's not a good idea to leave it alone for months at a time, as it can accumulate moisture in various places, and the battery can die. So I think the easiest thing is to just drive it once a month in place of your normal ride.

Several weeks probably. I may drive it once a month if I need to haul something that needs protection. I should just plan on taking it somewhere monthly.
I thought fuel deteriorated pretty quickly. Maybe some gas dryer in the tank would help too.

Fuel does degrade over the course of several month. A stabilizer will help keep it good for longer. FI vehicles can handle a certain amount of bad gas, but over time the injectors get gummed up.

i use the blue Marine grade StaBil in any rigs that set such as the Aero. 4 times the strength of regular SB and has extra corrosion inhibitors.
use only 1/4 as much needed but remember, I'M CHEAP.

this gasohol we get now has the danger of fuel system damage from the ethanol picking up water, water corrodes. we have steel fuel lines and much of the rest of the fuel system has metal components subject to corrosion.
StaBil helps with the ethanol corrosion problem and also ethanol's propensity to cause phase inversion in gas contaminated with any water. a nasty mess to deal with, plugs components such as fuel filter, pumps, injectors.

will be worse when the Feds mandate E15 nationwide next year. will be the end of much of the gasoline marine engine business and pleasure.

you can get gas with no ethanol at many marinas but what a pain and adds a 25% premium to fuel costs.

Fuel typically last for 6 months befor degradation begins. But to keep h2o from forming through condensation (during winter), yes you can use stabil or any other like product. To save a couple of $, use Marvel Mystery Oil- available at any auto parts (yeah pep boys too). It will also lubricate/clean the injectors.
