According to the Ford User's Manual, you should never drive with the hubs locked / 4wd on a dry surface. The drive train will expierance excessive wear, and you will burn extra fuel in doing so.
I would not do it. Why cause issues you don't currently have,,right???
If you are in 2 wheel drive it should not matter if your hubs are locked or not. I know several people with manual transfer cases you leave the hubs locked all winter so that they dont have to get out to lock the hubs when they want 4 wheel drive.
i have alway's drove with my hubs locked in on a free/locked hub set up in the winter never know when you will need them.and in ny it is around half the year and never had a problem with them.if the hubs are locked in you are only turning the front end back to the t-case and nothing else as long as you are in 2 wheel drive. you will lose some mpg but won't hurt the truck.
