7.3 idi turbo replacement

does anyone know where I can find a direct replacement ats turbo for my factory turbo? all I can find are the full kits for a non-turbo and I don't need all the extra tubes and stuff, I just want to swap with a better turbo.

The direct replacement turbo is the same turbo. You can get the better downpipe for yours and make it like it is suppose to be instead of the ford cutback version from ats.

idi turbo replacement

are you sure that the turbo is the same? I was reading about how ford used a tuned down version of the turbo in 94 so that the diesel wouldnt beat the 460 in hp numbers. I was told that swapping the old ats turbo for the one that will make the proper amount of boost will add 60 hp. what about swapping for a stock powerstroke turbo? how much power can I expect from the downpipe swap? do I get that from ats?

Your current engine will only take about 15 psi boost maximum without changing to head studs. The injection pump was cut back, the Ford down pipe was also very restricted and the turbo outlet was quite a bit smaller. The power stroke turbo puts out too much boost and would be hard to make fit.

ATS does sell the outlet and 3 inch down pipe, with that, turning up the injection pump and advancing the pump timing along with free flowing exhaust to the tip should do wonders. Depending on the mileage on your engine it may be time for injection pump and injectors.
