If you were installing new speakers ?

I want to replace my stock speakers in my 99 F250SD SC , I already repaced the HU with a Kenwood from BestBuy but the stock speakers sound like crap, What is the best bang for the buck, Im not adding any subs , it dont need to sound like a million bucks but dont wont spend a ton either.

TIA
Jeff

I would start by defining what I wanted. If nothing else, set a price range, but on the nice side, pick your SN ratio and dynamic range. Then start listening to what matches your specs. There are a lot of good resources that explain all of this, and we are happy to help here.

First go out and listen to a bunch of speakers using the music you like to listen too. Speakers "sounding" good is a very subjective determination. I will use an example, many people rave about Boston Acoustics, I myself don't like their sound at all and wouldn't install them in any vehicle I own even though they are highly rated and a great speaker. What you want to spend will also determine some things but with the ability to buy off the internet and get great deals your options are much better than having to pay store pricing.
Also if you have any buddies with SD's listen to what they have in their truck so you can get a better idea of what they might actually sound like in your truck. Buy what sounds good to you regardless of what others think or rate.

Let's be honest here... Nobody actually likes those. Kids will tell you they like them just because they are the most expensive thing that the chain stores sell.

I really havent listened to anything, I always think the speakers on display at someplace like bestbuy are "jucied up" ...face it your standing in the middle of a 10,000 sq foot showroom not in the cab of your truck so they never sound the same in your truck as they do in the store....as for music itself I listen to anything from classic rock to country and its about a 50/50 split but its mainly on the sirius not radio or cds or mp3 to much. As for how much I spend I have no clue, no I dont want to spend a grand on 4 speakers , I figured I should be able to get something decent for $100/pr or less or am I wrong ?

You can easily find speakers for under $100 pair. Check out some local stereo shops. they are smaller so you aren't competing with the rest of the noise from the store. It is still coming from a board but you can get a better idea.
I went with the cheap route in my CC and chose the Pioneer 3 ways. Can't remember the model number might have been 8507's or something, cost me about $60 a pair. They are about 7 years old now and still no complaints. I am running amps to them as well. I was a big fan of MB Quarts back in the day not sure if they are still as good now. If I ever decided to upgrade they would be the first ones I took a look at.
