Turn Signals don't flash consistently

The turn signals on my '05 F-250 have begun to only flash part of the time...some of the time, both front & rear lights come up but stay solid (no flashing). Then, they'll start working again. When they do flash, it's a normal (not fast) flash. It's an intermittent issue.

I'm traveling so not with the truck to dig into this right now. My wife had the truck into the dealer yesterday for an oil change & mentioned this...they said the issue is actually in the climate control unit and it would need to be replaced (several hundred dollars for the part...2 hours of labor).

That doesn't make any sense - I told my wife to tell them 'NO' and just leave.

Any ideas? My sense is that there is perhaps a relay or flasher unit that may need to be replaced. If so...where is it on the truck, how much are they & any ideas where I can get one other than the dealer?

Thanks much,

Rick

2 things.

Replace the flasher. Cheap $10 or so.

Then clean the entire contact block just above / around the brake pedal --- unplug the connectors, use circuit cleaner spray to get at rust, jiggle it, then reseal with dielectric (white) grease.

Also check -- all light bulb sockets, connectors on 4 corners need to be clean and free of corrosion...

If the bulb just lights but not flash.. that is probably corrosion.. or a bulb has burnt out.

See my electricals thread....

Ford is very vulnerable to corrosion of the electrics if there is moisture / salt / humidity in the foot well in the front ...

Do you operate vehicle with a lot of dirt, sand, salt, moisture there?

Thanks for the ideas. I'll swing down to the shop & pick up the flasher relay.

I've never had any moisture in the foot well and don't drive the truck in sand/salt/dirt...the only moisture the truck has ever seen is normal rain.

Thanks much,

Rick

Sounds like tired flasher. I got one for $10 locally.. generic but plugged right in.. without the right tab to fit in the old place...

So I just used a cable tie to secure it.

Multifunction switch is $150 or more.

Try cleaning the contacts on it (connectors) and WD 40 it....

On mine, the auto shut off of turn signals (when wheel turns) is dead.

I am not going to spend $$$ for that issue alone.

Where abouts did you find the flasher and how many prongs are on it? Is there room for a longer flasher? I got some LEDs for my 05 and need to change the flasher first. I have about 6 different LED flashers on the shelf at work but not sure which one it is.
