c 850 fire truck w 534

have few questions about a c 850 with 534. have had the truck for about a year but little experience with the pump. sometimes the pressure is real good and strong when i use it in 3rd gear and other times its not there and have to put it in 5th gear to make up for it. i run it the same rpm and everything every time so not sure if its in the pump or in the powerplant. last time i ran it i heard it start knocking so thats why im not sure. know the engine is now shot and dont want to spend the time on overhaul if my pump is getting weak to. if anyone has information on this type of fire truck i would greatly appreciate your help and experience. thanks Tanner

Firetruck help

Well, I don't know how much "Help" I can be, I just aquired a 1959 C850 Cabover 477 engine. In okay shape, our engine is puttering, not in perfect condition, but it'll run.

We have been messing around with the pumps of late, though our tank can't hold water without leaking. Can't tell where the leak is, so we use hydrants to power through the hoses. We enlisted the help of some local firecrews here in Wichita to show us a little about it.

If you get around to it, post back or send a PM. www.jetbbq.com is our site.

Talk to you soon,

Jet

Big. Heavy. Slow. Thirsty.

You are better off with your 330 in that F600.......

There are a couple of threads here with specs, you can scroll through them as easily as I.... They are the ones most recently posted on.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on putting a beast like that in my F600. I am looking into getting an H-series and although many of these had cat diesels, some had the 534 also.
Just checking into it.
Thanks,
Erich

Yea, go Cat. These things are museum pieces. I suppose there are some still in commercial service, but my guess is that feller buys red ink like he buys gas.....

Yeah,
I heard the 534 seamaster was a real workhorse, so the longevity with the 534 may be there too, with some babying. I really prefer diesel engines anyway. They're harder to work on for sure, but a lot darn harder to kill too.
Thanks,
Erich

I am in need of a 534 valve cover. Do you have any xtra parts or know where I might get on or any parts at all. Thanks, Rise
