What wire to disconnect on my factory NAV unit....HELP

Hey guys, I have a 2010 F250 King Ranch, has the factory NAV unit, only problem there is one wire that keeps us ( those with the NAV unit ) from being able to adjust maps, watch DVD's, etc while moving.

My after market unit in my old truck had all this but the dealer that installed it never hooked up the wire that monitored speed or what ever it did. I was able to make adjustments and watch DVD's while moving.

Is there a wire on this factory unit that can be removed/cut so I can make changes without stoping ???

Thanks for your help !!

It's technically Illegal, and the engineers are making it more difficult to bypass it with every revision. However I'll PM a place to visit for the info.

I don't know who sub-contracts for ford, but it's my understanding that is the place to go for all you're radio bypassing needs.

The factory nav in your truck is supplied by Clarion. Without adding a separate module made by some aftermarket companies, there is no way to to disable the safety features. I actualy work for the manufacture and we have asked the Engineers several times to make us special units for testing and demos with the safety features disabled and they said they can not with our current hw/sw.

hndacr, if you work for ford, why is there not an easier way to program functions in the radio such as sub-woofers??

I do not work for Ford, I actaully work for Clarion. Pioneer only supplied through 2008. The factory nav can be configured for factory options such as subwoofer, thx, etc. The configuration is a binary to hex conversion that must be calculated and then updated with a CAN tool and special FOrd program. Are you trying to configure for aftermarket sub??

You do have a pioneer unit if it is 2007. Unless you have the equipment, you are out of luck. The unit need to be reprogrammed. I have done several units that I have sold on ebay and also units that people sent me just to program.

Go to your local stereo shop, we have Car Tunes here in Michigam, you know how many ppl do the very thing your trying to do, tons. So many after market companies have come out with product so you can maintain your factory radio and add aftermarket sub's, amps, speakers, etc.

I have a 2006 Lincoln LS, I have the factory NAV unit and have added, iPOD hook up, direct into the radio, subs, and one amp, again all using the factory radio.

So many of the rice burnner cars have these funkie radio's that you can't just upgrade without taking the entire heating/cooling controls out along with it, so the after market companies have product now that will allow the same result as a completely after market radio set up.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Good Luck

AN aftermarket shop could add ipod interface by using a pie adapter. However, unlike the stereo in your LS, the newer Ford radios rely solely on programming. You could tie into the sub output wire on the radio, but until the radio is reprogrammed, the unit will not put out a signal on the line that you tapped.
