Repost: Danna 44 -6BF Front Drive Axle Locking hub problems
I posted it a bit ago and decided to repost to get some more feed back as this is a reocurring issue with my ford and a few others. The FACTS: 1971 F250 4x4 with Dana 44-6BF front axle, thats the 3500LB one, manual locking hubs. Driver side locking hubs seem to break, alot. WHen the locking hubs fail, only on the driver side, they explode out of the wheel hub, literaly, fly about 3 feet. I have observed similar failures on 1970-1973 6BF's and 6F's. I have recently rebuilt the entire driver-side from the axle shaft out. ANd it still does it.. I have used both Superwinch and the standard ford and both fail. This is either a serious design flaw, and would explain why my model year of fords are VERY rare as are axles for said years, or something is wrong that i just cant see as my axle fits perfectly with what is said and diagramed in my Ford SHop Manuals. SO any one out there with a 71 or so F250 4x4 post please tell me if you are having this problem too, i have seen on 4 other axles as well as my own. They solved the problem by simply drilling 4 holes in the wheel hub and inserting grade 9 screws as retaining points to make the hub stay on. I dont feel that i should have to sink to such a level to make this work, something isnt right here. I need some help.
Thanks.
Thanks.
