some issues with my 87' Ranger

O.K. lets start at the top. bought this truck in the spring, after my tax return, after mty caravan tranny blew up on me. it was a little bit rough, but it ran, and it was only $600. after a week or two i noticed that it leaked quite abit of oil on the ground. i just figured it was old and it just had a nonprblemsome leak someware, i ignored it and just kept refilling it when it went low. now it is winter, and all of a sudden it starts to studder really bad, and even shut off, and today it starts to pour cooliant out of the overflow tank. i am kinda annoyed at this, but not surprised, what could possibly be the problem?

The coolant pouring out of the overflow tank is troublesome. The 2.9L is prone to cracked heads. Check for clean ("washed') spark plugs, white exhaust smoke when warm, low compression on one or more cylinders, and/or "chocolate pudding" on the oil cap or dipstick.

no "pudding", its cold out so i really cannot tell about the white smoke. when i pull it into my garage soon i will check out the spark plugs. i do notice a white type of foam on the cap of the valve cover were i pour in the oil, but nothing like that in the rest of the oil.

Well atleast i only payed $600 for it, how much does it cost for new heads, and gaskets? i figure if i fix it i could get alot more miles from it. i do like the truck alot, so far for my first Ford i like it. i bought it expecting problems down the road, i know it is really not the trucks fault. heck when i bought it, it had a number on the side, and was covered in mud.
