This is a very loaded question that will get a lot of heated answers. It's also asked a lot. Probably once a week if not more. Try a search, it doesn't always work the best but will get you started. Also browse here and down in the 7.3 and 6.0 forums. You will find lots of useful info, probably more so than the replies you will get to a thread like this.

Welcome to FTE Powerstroke65.

I would suggest going to the respective forums for the 6.0 & 7.3 PSD and doing some research on each truck. You will find as many opinions as their are owners regarding the questions you have asked.

Follows is a link to the 6.0 PSD section of the forum (I don't have the 7.3 PSD section bookmarked).

2003 - 2007 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Also check out the post #12 on the following thread for some good things to look for in the 6.0 PSD.

As much as I love my 7.3L, they're all getting pretty old now and you are looking at a lot of age and wear on the trucks components. Granted, a well taken care of diesel engine has a lot of life in it, but it takes a toll on the rest of the truck with all the added weight too.

It obviously depends on your budget and what you find, but I would go for something a little newer that has fewer miles and better options and comfort too. If I was looking for a Powerstroke right now, I would be looking for an '06-'07 6.0L.

I own a 2001 7.3 dually.

The boss just bought a 2010 off the lot and I just drove it this week.

250 mile trip cruise set at 71 mph and I recorded 15.4 mpg.

I used to be diehard 7.3, but I'm coming around to the late model 6.0s, although I would allocate an additional $2,000 dollars to make it reliable.

In reality any diesel is a good one in my book. On the 6.0 you just need to make sure it has a good Oasis report.
