Automatic hubs on my early 1997 250 are not working I am not familiar with these things, but can you change the automatics to manual locks?

You have to change more then just the hubs. You need to switch out the automatic crap.

Thanks for info...I sort of thot that....When we engage the front wheel drive...all the lights are working, in fact you can hear the engagement, but tires will not spin...Recently had the transmission replaced and the front wheel drive worked properly before the trans work was done. Thx again

Probably a vacume line or something. Should be some lines going to the 4x4 actuator on the front.

I'd be more helpful but I know very very little about auto hubs.

Neither of my auto hubs had vacuum actuators ( F150 and F350). The auto hubs just engaged, or were supposed to, when torque was applied to the front. 5.0L (302 CID) truck's had an optional "Touch Drive" electronic transfer case

How about post a pic of the hub and I'll let you know what you need to do to fix it. Is your 97 the old 95 body style or is it a "light duty" 250 that had the same body style of the 97 F-150?

Remember there was the transition year for the 250's and 350's from 97 until 99, when the super duty body emerged.

The old (as in 95 square) body, the auto hubs can be easily changed for the warns, the interim body didn't really have a "hub" so to speak, and the newer, more commom super duty body uses vacuum operated hubs.

If its a super duty, you can turn the hub to lock position by hand...

I forgot about that stupid light duty 250. 7 lug axles wasn't it. Did that run in 97 too? I thought it was just in 98
