Truck trend reported last issue that the 5.0L for the F-150 would have HP in the 365ish range. That would more than meet my needs.

The real success story IMHO is if the 6.2L can actually pull off the same MPG as the 5.4L in the SD. That makes the SD a viable candidate once again.

They ARE bigger than the 460 and yes, it is due to their being overhead cam engines.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this chart (the height of the mod motors looks way wrong but I think the width may be correct), but check it out...the mod motors are HUGE--I've seen them in street rods, and they are bigger than an old 426 street hemi...

I remembered it having 300HP in the Lincoln Navigator with DOHC before it changed to the 3v, but I could be wrong. In the Ford Falcon XR8, and GT in Australia, they use a crap load more fuel than the Holden Commodore did with the Gen 3 V8 that has the same power. The 5.4 V8 3 valve in the regular Falcon was a bit better on fuel than the DOHC.

It is supposed to be better, according to Ford.

The stroke is a bit longer in the 5.4 (4.165''?) than it is in the 460 (3.85''?), which probably makes the deck taller too.

I agree. If a 2011 SD 6.2L could get the same mpg as my current 04 5.4L.... Now your talking progress. Based on what Ford has said that should be possible.

I'm holding out until I know for sure what engines will be available in what trucks. The 6.2L would make a SD a viable choice again. But if the 6.2 were available in the XLT F150 that would also be viable for me. The 5.0 may work out in an F150 if the power band is low enough and it has a fat torque curve with most in by 1700 rpm. But I want the engine choices available across the board. I don't want a Lariat, Platinum, or Harley package. I want an XLT model. That's loaded up enough for me. If Ford doesn't make the engines available in all trim levels, I'll probably just hang on to the 06 for 6 or 8 more years.

+1 on that whole paragraph. As long as my old '88 still runs as well as she does, I may simply skip the current generation of trucks and buy an econobox. The new Fiesta would be a fun drive.

I agree with you totally!!! I pull a 27ft fifth wheel camper with my current '07 5.4l, and it pulls it fine but more power is pretty much something all guys want, especially when towing. a 2011 6.2l superduty is a viable option but a little on the big side when it comes to getting around the city and parking in my garage. A f150 XLT with the 6.2l would be my next truck in foresure if ford decides to build it!!! I too don't need anything fancy in a truck!

I tend to agree except replace XLT with FX4 for me.

I wouldn't turn down an FX4 if I could get captains chairs and XLT console with the shifter on the tree. But it'll depend on engine availability in what models as to what I'll be doing about a truck.

I absolutely love the black leather offered on the FX4's! I think it's the sharpest interior in the line-up.

I think the black interior looks cool, but I almost didn't get the FX4 because of it... Can you imagine getting in/out of a truck in the mud with black interior? I'm scared to think about cleaning my truck when I eventually take delivery...
