Stumped on what part of the engine block it could be.

On the drivers side of my 460 about midway back near the bottom is a round circle with a bolt and nut. It looks like it would be a freeze plug but I thought they are pressed in. Anyway, it is leaking antifreeze from it and I can't figure out what it would be. Any ideas? I am trying to figure out how to stop the slow leak.

Freeze plugs can just be snugly inserted. Ive put some in with just some silicon around the outer diameter and tap it into the hole. They arent pressed with a machine like you would think. Is it rubber? I also know they make aftermarket ones that is a rubber plug and you tighten the nut on it and it expands it to make a seal. If its leaking coolant my guess would be freeze plug. You can pop it out with a hammer and punch but if you do, be careful not to lose it in the block. That can be a mess.

Can you get a picture of it? But I agree that it is probably either an aftermarket rubber expansion freeze plug (which I thought were only temporary) or a block heater without the plug. Either way it isnt good to be loosing coolant out of it...

They are temporary. Some people just don't care to do it right the first time.

Go to a parts store and get a BRASS freeze plug. Depending on the size, you will need to get your size. I think they have brass, rubber, and ?aluminum? plugs. But, the brass wont rust. Thats what I use when I replace em. Shouldnt cost you any more than 5 bucks.

All you have to do to replace it is to loosten the bolt in the middle of it, and then give it a tap to pop it out just like with a regular freeze plug. If you have never replaced one before the way to install it is with a freeze plug installer tool. or just a socket that fits in the middle of the new plug and use the socket as a punch.
If the hole the plug goes in does not look smoth, then put a LITTLE bit of sealant on the edge of the freeze plug before you install it to prevent a leak. I have seen peaple put thoes "temps" in because they could not get a good seal with a real plug (probably what happend to yours)
