problems starting new 351 w

i got a 88 f250 i put a new 351 create engine in it. everthing is hooked up, its got fule ,spark, compersion, and the timing is right. it will crank over but not fire i was wondering if i had to reset the computer or wat anything helps guys thanks

you should not have to reset your computer mine went in with out reseting it. how did you test your spark?

and how did you get your timing right if it wouldnt start the engine has to be running for the timing to be checked with a light

whups didn't mean to wright that and the spark i puled a plug and cranked the engine and checked it that way

well there you go i would say my first guess is your timing is way off but idk it could possibly be something else but i would start with that

How did you set the distributor? You need to start with #1 cyl at TDC on the compression stroke and then insert the dizzy so the rotor points to the #1 post on the cap. But don't tighten down the distributor, leave it loose enough to turn and if the motor doesn't fire when cranked rotate it clockwise a little and try again until it does. If you find the distributor needs to be really cranked around then it's misaligned a tooth, remove and insert it counter clockwise 1 tooth.
