I was driving down the road ~30mph and the truck just died. It will crank but not start. When I crank the tach does not move. When I turn the key over I get no Wait to Start light. I don't hear the fuel pump either. I did get the CPS replaced when recalled. My truck is and early 99. Thanks in advance.
Of course Ford Parts and Service is closed on Saturday.
Doesn't sound like the classic CPS issues, at least to my knowledge. Possibly a fuel issue if you don't hear the fuel pump priming. One thing you can do is drain the fuel bowl down using that yellow lever on the back of the fuel bowl, pull the cap and have somebody turn the key on and see if the bowl fills up, if it does then its on to step two.
I am pretty sure I have a shorted fuel bowl heater. Fuse #30 is blown. I unplugged the fuel bowl heater and am going to buy fuses. The white plug on the back of the fuel bowl is for the fuel bowl heater right? Thanks. I'm from Kelso by the way.
I am thinking I will just leave the fuel bowl heater unhooked. Is this only needed for extreme cold conditions? I'm sure glad this happened two miles from my house and not while on vacation or when the wife was driving. How much is a new fuel bowl heater and are they redesigned and more reliable?
