What engine oil do you guys use

Hi Guys
I've always used 15/40 engine oil in my engine. A hot shot Ford mechanic (which I am not) once told me that the oil to use was 10/30 'cause it was better for the injectors. But I was thinkin' what about the rest of the engine???

So what do you guys use and why?

If you do a search for "engine oil" "best oil" "what kind of oil?" etc. you will find numerous threads on this topic. You will even find polls, graphs, a few OA's, and plenty of reasons why one oil is better than the next.

Okay, I can do that. I just wanted to start a current topic of interest to me... and maybe someone else.
Have I gone about this the wrong way?

Nah, it's just that oil threads are sometimes controversial. Don't worry about it. Most use Rotella (dino or syn), with Delo, Delvac, Schaeffer, etc. also with their numerous fans. I personally use syn Rotella. I think it's the best bang for the buck.

I don't know of a diesel-rated 10w30 but given that you're in Canada I'd run a synthetic. Personally I run Rotella 5w40 fully synthetic and it helped a GREAT deal with cold-weather starts.

Motorcraft makes a Diesel Rated 10/30.
I am currently running Schaeffers 7000 15W40. I have also ran Schaeffers 9000 5W40 Full Synthetic. I will be switching back to the full synthetic on my next oil change. My truck loves both oils, but winter is here so im going to go full synthetic and stick with it. it costs a little more, but my truck runs better with it

Yep -- there is a 10W-30 (Oil Rotella T 10w30 Gal America's Farm & Home Store), which is a decent alternative to syn, I guess. I think 5W-40 is better, because it's still like a 40-weight oil when fully warmed up. Normally, a change is due when a 40-weight breaks down to 30. I would think 10w-30 might be a bit too thin after a normal interval. Just my not-so humble opinion...

Delo is the only oil I've EVER romped on... LOL Won't ever run it again.

EDIT: See? Told you it gets controversial.

Esso xd3 10w30 is a diesel rated oil and i use in all my customers cat equipment oil changes in winter also some of the construction companies that i have work for also used this.

from my understanding this is one of Esso better oils

x2 here on that. HPX made a huge difference over last years issues with the romps. (Doesn't get as cold here as it does where you're from though Jason)

Great OA reports from using this oil, and it's usually only a little over $9/gallon when I pick it up on sale.

Are you using ESSO 10/30 on heavy equipment? What kind of temperatures does your winter bring? We occasionally get 15 degrees of frost but usually winter around here runs from 5 degrees below freezing to 5 degrees above. Most heavy equipment around here uses 15/40.

A vote for some 5-40 synthetic of your choice up there, unless the 15-40 works, I wouldn't go any lower than the 5-40 IMO. Edit:: but then again, I don't see those temps down here.
