Well it appears my transmission has decided to go out on me. Was driving home and it revved rather high and then went back down. Thought nothing of it but once I got home, my transmission would not shift. It is an automatic (C4), shifted just fine as far as driving but would not go out of drive. I chcked to see if the linkage was biniding and that was not the case, the actual shifter (not sure of the technical term) will not move, it goes down one spot and then back up that one but that is as far as it goes. I havent been able to look at it yet so I am just asking on here to see if anyone has experienced a similar problem to have any idea what of went wrong here? Thanks!
Also, if it is necessary to replace the transmission (I don't want to rebuild, if I need to do that I would much rather replace it with a case fill as the pan fill sucks with headers), does anyone know a good place in Tucson?
i would try disconnecting the linkage and manually trying to move the shift arm on the tranny and see if it moves. with the truck off and also with the truck running, parking brake on, wheels chocked and someone sitting there with there foot on the brake for safety.
if you are going to replace the tranny don't go to autozone for it at least not thier rebuilds. i have a long and winding story to tell about autozone trannys. just trust me it is better to pour sand in your broken one and sacrifice a chicken during a full moon and hope than to get one from autozone.
Anybody have experience with TCI trannys? (B&M doesn't have C4 transmissions) They seem to be reasonably well priced but I've heard mixed reviews about torque converters from them but nothing about transmissions. Also, would a 302 in a 70 F-100 be a small or large bellhousing? I'm guessing small but I just wanna be sure.
If you have the dough to go with a tci tranny why not have the one you have rebuilt? It would most likely be cheaper to drop your tranny and take it to a tranny shop.
As far as TCI goes, I bought one of their rebuild kits for a TF 727 and rebuilt my own in my garage over a weekend, stuck it in my 68 charger and been burning rubber since
Well as long as I have to tear into tranny work I would like to get a case fill because a pan fill is a pain in the you know where if you run headers with it.
