Pictures of Modified F-1 Crossmember
#16
I moved the stock crossmember back on the frame (to retain frame resistance to frame twist) and installed a new trans mount crossmember. In my case I went with an AOD and fabricated a new brake pedal mount retaining the original brake pedal. The disadvantage would be if you are going to a manual trans and want to use the original clutch in some way.

HD74, I noticed in your first post the red lines on you x member, which I take to be cut lines. Mine was already hacked away in the same area, and my frame was a flexi flyer without it. I made a removable, bolt on x member to replace the missing stock one, bolting it to the remaining stubs on the frame. It's made of 1.5" square tube, and stiffened the frame considerably. It's in the wrong place for my T5 tranny, so I added a second x member for the trans mount. The trans x member is a bolt on also, for easy trans removable. So, I actually have two x members now, within a few inches of each other. Ross, I noticed the speedo cable too, but I think I have enough space on mine since I'll be using an electric speedo. Again, the tranny mount is square tube, but the tube runs behind the mount on the trans rather than directly under for more ground clearance. I didn't notice the speedo situation untill everything was finished and painted. We'll see if it works when I install the speedo.....
