Does grind off heads of bed bolts free bed?

Question Does grind off heads of bed bolts free bed?

The title says it all would grinding off the heads of the bed bolt and hammering them through work on 94 i guess last resort load truck up on cartrailer and bring to cousin to have them welded to bed or the nut theiorey i just feel to lazy to winch it up with a comealong.

No that won't work, the bolts have a collar so the nuts have to be removed before the bed will come off. If they turn then the best solution is to weld a nut on top of the bolt so you have something to grip to prevent it from turning.

I ground the dome-heads off the bolts in my '97 to remove the bed. I had to punch them through the bottom hole with a drift pin but the bed definitely came off.

I tried removing the nuts first and by spinning them turned the square hole round. Gave the bolt a bit more room to drop down. But, grind the head off as completely as possible.

And another thing - don't put your hand down onto the head of a bolt you have just been grinding on.....it hurts and leaves a perfectly round blister.

Yes you can grind them off, I did it on my 1995 F150 also.
You can then punch them on through.

my f250 you could not punch them through because of the square part of the shaft but cut them off anyway and let them drop down so i could then cut the bottom part with the nut off then pushed the square part back up and out
