well crap........ rip 2001 f250

welp, last week dad was driving back to town in his 2001 f250 from the farm. it was realllly foggy and he tboned another f350. the truck he hit had a deweze bale bed on it

dads truck is prolly totaled and the truck he his is fine........... how? well. he swerved slighly to avoid hitting the drivers side door and hit the bed and trailor. the guy he hit pulled out in front of him.

i will post pics when i can, but right now i am in minneapolis on business.

we should find out tomorrow what the outcome is. he called long mcarther in salina and they said they can ge their hands on a 2009 f250 5.4 4x4 short bed ext cab with a manual

stipulations are a 5.4 4x4 ext cab...

i told him to get the 4.1 gears, as he pulls alot.
he wont budge and go diesel. i wont argue, our diesels latley have sucked.
he has to have 4x4, and ext cabs are great, but the long beds are just too long.

so if anyone knows where we can find a truck, please let me know.

also, i didnt know you could get a 5.4 paired with a manual anymore? if so, i need to find a wrecked f250 and rob the tranny and wireing harness

matt

Nope it's an auto--- everything else is a manual (windows-locks-hubs-xfercase)

If he doesn't pull long distances with heavy loads the 5.4 would be OK, but I would want the 4.10 gears too. I would also consider a v10 as the mileage isn't much different and you have the extra power if needed.

Frankly, with the extra cost of diesel and higher initial cost and maintenance, you have to put on lots of miles and tow heavy to make it pay out. If I didn't have mine, I'd probably go with a gasser unless I had piles of money.

Lots of folks on the SD forum really like the V10. I would probably stay away from the oldest ones as I think they had the same blown spark plug issue as the 5.4.

Check out the gas vs diesel thread on the SD forum. That should give you some first hand info to go on.
