My 75 is why I walked away from a major head on with a honda. It didn't come out as well as that bump (pic in my gallery) but I was fine and the truck was salvageable while the other guy went to the hospital and a 2 year old civic went to the shredder. I'm glad other people like driving econo boxes so me and mine can stay safe.

thats why I got a old truck had a 98 Honda Civic one time got run off the road by a raised up Chevy truck his grill was even with the top of my windshield. I lost it an went airborn an roll it in the air an on the ground destroyed the car air bags did not deploy Honda told me I did not hit it hard enough. The guy keep going did not stop. An this car here the 08 Chevy HHR SS so many problems an nobody can find anything wrong with it. I just said enough I need a old trusty Ford truck with no eletronic crap in it an I will be fine. Know other people who had real bad wrecks an airbags did not deploy dont know whats up with them not deploying. But if someone would hit this old Ford with some 33 or 35's on it an a wraparound brush guard they better hope they have there seatbelts on an airbags deploy for them they wil need they when ol Detroit gets done with them.

every vehicle i own has a grille guard. my 76 has a 3" pipe grille guard, though its more like an oversized bull bumper; my 78 has one of those old cheapies that were a product of the 80s, but still pretty tough; my 91 has a factory chrome guard, but its the "heavy duty" version; and my 93 explorer has a guard i built out of 1/4" channel iron that weighs in at a little over 120 lbs.

Looks like the truck hit the car pretty much dead-on - With an OEM bumper, it would probably be fine except for maybe putting a ding in the grill
Hitting something at an angle is a different story - I hit a car with the left-front quarter of a '78 Econoline. It folded the bumper back from where it was bolted to the frame and crushed the fender - it also shoved the inner fender/headlight bucket area back a little. I had just taken off from a stop so, I wasn't going more than maybe 5-10mph... It mangled the front-end of the newer-model car I hit pretty good but, it was still drivable...
However, I was able to pull everything back out and bolt on a new fender and bumper to get it back on the road. Not so easy to do on one of these newer cars...

I agree that the old stuff can really take a whuppin', but realistically if we all followed this mentality it would escalate to driving Sherman tanks if the law allowed as everybody would keep trying to one-up the next guy in terms of size and macho-ness.
It also would be interesting (more like disturbing) to see the result in an apples-to-apples accident i.e. two big, brawny F-250s on oversize tires, which does happen at times and is not so pretty for any of the involved parties...

Youtube is blocked at work. Someone let me know if it doesn't work. Cool vid for sure and it makes you think twice about the safety of the older stuff.
