O.K, will do. The truck is 600 miles away & I won't see it until the end of May but will look at the plate when I'm there. It has all original drive-train, I know the original owner personally.

 

Well, I can't seem to find a VIN decoder on line, and you guys seem to be a great resource. Can someone help me decode the following for a 65 F100?

Is one of them but you can't trust all the data on some of those sites. It looks like yours works but NumberDummy is the king of numbers.. haha

Double check your Body code, 87 was for the Econoline, should be C81. What was the DSO on the lower line of the Warranty plate?

I am new to this site and don't really know how to post my own statement so since I need the same help as this gentleman, I am going to tag along. I have bought a 1965 Ford F100 4x4 and I need help with the VIN/Warranty Number.

Here it is: F11DK592809.
What I think these numbers stand for:
F11= 61-66, 4 Wheel Drive, F-100
D= 1965, 352-V8, 2V-2 barrel carb, 208 hp, at 4400 rpm
K= Kansas City-assembly plant
592809= assemble date of Sept 1964

Please let me know how I did and what I have missed.

I am also interested in what the rest of the plate means.
Here it is:
W.B.120= Wheel Base of 120 inches
Color J= 65/66 Rangoon Red
Model F112= 63-66, 4 Wheel Drive, 5600 G.V.W., F-100
Body N81= No Idea - the 81A from 61-66 was a Standard Cab like mine
Trans N= No Idea - the F from 61-66 was 4 speed Manual like mine
Axle 08= 3:50 rear axle ratio 1965
Max G.V.W. LBS. 5600= Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight 5600 pounds
Cert. NET H.P. 172= 172 certified net horse power of 172 at 4000 rpm. Here I get confused as the 352 cid was suppose to be 208 hp at 4400 rpm
Is it due to the carb size?
R.P.M. 4000= revolutions per minute 4000 for testing horse power
D.S.O. 421298= distinguished service order- No Idea how to break down this number.

F11 = F100 Series, 4x4
D = 352-V8, 2V-2 barrel carb, certified net horse power of 172 at 4000 rpm - no mention of any other measurement for trucks. Perhaps may be confused with specifications for cars with 352 engines?
K = Kansas City Assembly Plant
592809 = Sep '64, for '65 Model Year
N81 - The "N" stands for the color of interior trim, Red crush vinyl and red ladder woven plastic
81 = Conventional cab
Trans N = 4 speed New Process 435
Axle 08= 3:50 rear axle ratio 1965
W.B.120= Wheel Base of 120 inches
Color J= Red (just red)
D.S.O. 421298 = District Special Order: 42 is for Fargo, the other 2, 2-digit numbers were for the dealer's use, were kept at the dealership that sold the truck, and are probably long lost.

172 net HP @ 4,000 RPM (208 is the gross HP .. marked thus on air cleaner decal).

421298:

42 = Fargo ND Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

1298 = Domestic Special Order number. The truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

Domestic Special Order: Some type of special equipment that was not an RPO (Regular Production Order) was installed on this truck after it left the assembly line per the original purchasers order.

Could have been a special body (Flat or Stake Bed or Utility Body), or who knows...now, because the IDIOTS @ FoMoCo THREW AWAY all this info decades ago.

The dealers did not retain these codes, only the District Sales Offices did.

If the truck was in Moosepie WY and a parts problem occurred with the special equipment, the WY dealer contacted the Fargo ND District Sales Office passing along the 6 digit DSO

Fargo looked up the order, passed the info back to the dealer letting them know where the parts could be found.
