New Steering Wheel Cover - Loosened SW

Bought one of those stretch to fit covers to fit over my gummy feeling steering wheel. After stretching, it was tight (a little cool outside), I got it on. After installing now the steering wheel has a clunk and loose feel in it and feels like something is popping in the column. I guess prying the cover on loosened something. Any ideas? Fix one thing, cause another. Oh yeah, it's on an 88 Ranger, no tilt column. Auto in the floor.

Took the horn cover off and it looks like the top bearing has alot of play/slop. I think the bearing is shot. Truck has 167K on it. Was probably about to go bad anyway. I guess I'll start breaking down the column.
